The Fizz @ 50 series
A series of fifty short pieces for double bass and piano from composers throughout the world, instigated by David Heyes to celebrate his 50th birthday. Each composer received a bottle of champagne (Fizz) as payment.
Fizzy Basso was written in May 2012 and is a simple and evocative Japanese-inspired melody for double bass with a single-line piano accompaniment, also playable by double bass. Teppo Hauta-aho has the rare ability to create magical music and images from the simplest of melodic material and Fizzy Basso is wonderfully atmospheric and accessible for bassists and audiences alike. It also has one of the most inventive titles of the series.
