The Transcriptions Series series

Recital Music publish a wealth of original works for double bass alongside a popular, accessible and growing range of transcriptions for bassists of all ages and abilities. Most transcriptions published by Recital Music are by David Heyes, who has a successful and proven track record when arranging for double bass.

Originally for piano, Antonin Dvorak's Humoreske Op.101, No.7 has been newly arranged for double bass and piano by David Heyes. This iconic and instantly recognisable melody transcribes well for the intermediate bassist and the edition includes accompaniments for both solo and orchestral tunings.

There are effective and accessible musical and melodic challenges for the adventurous player and this has much to offer as a concert or study piece. The opening theme is jaunty and picaresque, contrasting a more lyrical, romantic and dramatic middle section, returning to the simple and evocative melody to bring the piece to a successful conclusion.

Humoreske would suit a Grade 7/8 bassist with some knowledge of basic thumb position, but there are few challenges that cannot be overcome with a little work and enthusiasm.

A sure-fire hit with audiences. Enjoy!

"Here is a favourite piece for piano, transposed one semi-tone higher than the original key of G flat major, now suitably fitting into thumb position. Poco lento e grazioso, this piece has an easy character which, by placing it in the 'open' hand and octave harmonic position is now more easily achievable. As a musically enjoyable piece, it supports the learning of thumb hand positions across the strings, as the piece opens in G major, middle section of G minor returning to G major again.
It is always a pleasure to find a piece of music that I would like to play as well as teach and I am sure this is also in David Heyes' mind when producing this arrangement. It has been published with piano parts for both orchestral and solo tuning." [Liz Bradley/ESTA/Arco-Summer 2012]
