Forest Bell-birds was composed in 2004 and is an evocative solo for flute or piccolo, the two versions differing in places. The music explores both the song of the Bell-birds and the forest environment they live in. It includes a section headed "Echoing bird calls", a characteristic feature of Australian bird life. The music ranges widely over all the registers of the flute and provides an unusual recital piece for players of around Grade 7 standard. The music was set from the manuscript by F.H. Nex and C.M.M. Nex.
