Colne Edition celebrates new distribution agreement

from a press release by Choral Connections (Alan Bullard's agent).

Colne Edition has signed an exclusive new distribution deal with Spartan Press, to ensure that Alan Bullard’s music is easier to purchase than ever before.

Over the 2005/6 season Colne Edition has been preparing a new series of octavo publications by Bullard. Eight titles have existed up until now, but to coincide with the new distribution arrangement, Colne Edition is adding six more to the series which will be officially launched at this year’s ABCD Convention. The following new titles will be added:

All in tune – an enchanting but moderately simple Christmas carol for equal voices in three parts with piano or organ, and optional flute, set to the anonymous text ‘All in tune to William’s flute’

Alleluia – Bullard uses only the words Alleluia and Gloria to create a fresh and original anthem full of rhythmic ingenuity, for SATB choir. “An admirable choral flourish” praised Church Music Quarterly

Nativity – Exceptional word setting and vocal writing ensure that C17th poet Richard Crashaw’s words spring to life in this anthem for unaccompanied mixed voices

Overheard on a Saltmarsh – An evocative setting of mysterious words by Harold Munro, this colourful song for two-part upper voices with piano blends an easy melodic line with rich harmonies and spoken effects, with an optional descant recorder part.

A Strange Story – An amusing and fast-moving setting for young voices and piano of a traditional riddle featuring the exchange of ideas between the two voice parts, and with an optional descant recorder part.

Two anthems of meditation:

Blessed are the Eyes – a short, melodic and contemplative setting of the poem by G A Studdert Kennedy for SATB choir. Colne Edition has paired it with

O Lord Seek Us – a beautiful miniature anthem to a poem by Christina Rossetti, suitable for any occasion, for SATB and optional organ. Both anthems are relatively easy.

To celebrate the new partnership with Spartan Press and the launch of the octavo series, Colne Edition invites delegates at the Annual Convention of the Association of British Choral Directors to call at the Choral Connections stand to pick up free sample copies of the Colne Edition Octavo Series.

Current Colne Edition titles available from Spartan Press from August 2006.
