Julian Lloyd Webber conducting debut

Julian Lloyd Webber’s Conducting Debut on Disc: 'And The Bridge is Love' – English Music for Strings with the English Chamber Orchestra.

The acclaimed musician and music educator, Julian Lloyd Webber, forges a brand-new path here as a conductor, following last year's shock announcement that he had to stop playing the cello on medical grounds.

Recorded earlier last year with the English Chamber Orchestra, Julian has assembled a supreme programme comprised of music by his favourite English composers, including Elgar, Delius, Vaughan Williams, Ireland, Walton, Howard Goodall and his father, William Lloyd Webber which includes no less than four world premiere recordings.

Release Date: 02 March 2015/Label: Naxos/Distribution: Select/Cat. No. 8.573250

The recording includes the premiere of 'The Moon' by William Lloyd Webber, recently published by Spartan Press: SP1251.

Full score plus set of 10 parts: 3 x vln1, 2 x vln2, 2 x vla, 2 x vcl, 1 x db.

Julian writes: "My father composed his four part song 'The Moon' in 1959 to words by W.H Davies. The text – as in so many of his word settings – equates nature with humanity: 'Thy beauty haunts me, heart and soul'. Although 'The Moon' remained unperformed until his centenary year in 2014 he evidently felt strongly enough about it to create this miniature for string orchestra."
