...I warmed to the piece very much, and the fact that one only 'discovers' the theme in its unfettered state at the dénouement provides a neat twist that I'm sure Arnold would have appreciated. The various musical cameos – and they really do emerge in scenic terms, at least in my own mind as I played the piece through – hang together as a sort of collage, in which the theme is gradually permitted to drip from the composer's brush, as it were...Malcolm Arnold, who died only a few years ago, was a wonderful symphonist and all-round musician whose adroitness and musical sleight-of-hand skills provided the perfect fodder for this new work.

...Matthew Taylor's Fantasy on the main theme [from the film score Whistle Down the Wind]retains both the tension and wistful quality of the original. An interesting piece for advanced students.
