The play-a-long CD is excellent. It not only uses live musicians but also includes improvised solos which will help the student on thier own journey in to jazz...
The book is well laid out with useful hints for the improvised sections which sometimes have written-out solos.

The classically trained musician is often nervous about trying to improvise jazz. Volume 1 should help to allay those fears...the greatest advantage has to be the CD...The performances are short and fairly simple allowing you just to copy in the first instance. Recommended
