Richard Priest opened Allegro Music in 1984, following the completion of his vocal studies at Birmingham School of Music (now Birmingham Conservatoire). Since then he has developed the business into one of the country's leading classical music shops which he and his wife, Barbara, now run together. They offer a mail-order service which now reaches worldwide destinations.
Allegro Music supplies sheet music for the majority of classical instruments with a wide selection of titles kept in stock. Material required for the ABRSM examinations is available and, for any item not in stock, regular orders are placed with UK publishers and their agencies, along with most major overseas publishers (subject to copyright restrictions). Stock items are despatched within 24 hours and non-stock items are obtained as quickly as possible.
In recent years Allegro Music has paid particular attention to the field of organ and choral music. As well as holding an extensive stock of organ music 1998 has seen the launch of Allegro's Organ Archive Service, licenced to supply authorised reprints of out-of-print organ titles from Oxford University Press, Peters Edition Ltd. and Schott & Co. Ltd. Catalogues are available on request, free of charge. Allegro Music is also the sole agency for the Incorporated Association of Organists, selling the IAO's merchandise and regularly supporting their national events.
As a new venture for 2000 Allegro Music now supplies organ and choral CDs from a range of well known publishers to complement its range of printed music.
